Gregory Sapp - Violin Maker, Restorer
Violin making is a profession steeped in centuries of intrigue and mystery and involves a profound knowledge of materials as well as physics. A dozen years ago I took it into my head to learn to play violin and along with that - to learn everything I could about the instrument. That’s when I met Greg. He provides high level restoration and repair services to musicians and shops all around the United States out of his shops in Chicago and Batavia, IL. Greg attended the Kenneth Warren and Son School of Violin Making, working under Master Tscho Ho Lee and graduated with an “Excellence in Craftsmanship” grade. In addition to restoration, he creates exquisite instruments as well as devices to aid him in his restoration efforts. He is an educator in restoration techniques at the Oberlin Restoration Workshops. In 2021, he was awarded a Gold Medal for a cello bridge he submitted to the International Violin Bridge Competition.
