Zvonimir Tot - Composer, Musician, Professor
A few years back I stopped into a local winery and heard the most exquisite jazz guitar playing I’d ever heard in a live venue. Jazz saxophonist Shawn Maxwell and Zvonimir played two hours of improvisation on standards and after picking myself up off the floor, I went up to talk to him and later sought him out as a teacher. He is a jazz guitarist, composer and arranger with a style deeply rooted in the jazz tradition but flavored by his European origins. Zvonimir has performed in the United States, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Macedonia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, South Africa, and Spain. He has performed and/or recorded with many world-renowned musicians, including Philip Catherine, Joey DeFrancesco, Paulinho Garcia, Howard Levy, Paul Wertico, Jamey Aebersold, Eric Alexander and Johnny Frigo. Zvonimir is a Clinical Associate Professor of Music at University of Illinois at Chicago and currently teaches jazz guitar, jazz combo, harmony, and ear training. He has recorded seven CDs as a leader as well as numerous CDs as a sideman. Zvonimir is also the author of the book Jazz Guitar Harmony – The Melodic Approach, published by Jamey Aebersold Jazz. He has been a faculty member at the world-renowned Jamey Aebersold's Summer Jazz Workshops since 2016. Zvonimir Tot is currently teaching in Mexico on a Fulbright Foundation scholarship.
