Why I paint food
If it is true that we are what we eat, then it seems that painting and drawing food are in some way related to the fabric of humanity. There is a very long tradition of portraying food in art that goes back to the villas of Pompeii and became truly refined in the Golden Age of Holland at the end of the 17th century.
Food paintings in our homes remind us of our nature; we are temporary, we hunger, we enjoy comfort, we thrive with proper nourishment. They offer to our guests the notion that they are in a home that caters to fundamental human needs and that they will be welcomed and cared for.
It is in this spirit that I offer these intimate works to you.
